In The Villages, the parking spaces surrounding Brownwood and Lake Sumter squares are becoming a hot topic of conversation. Many residents say too many of these prime spots are taken by full-sized cars—spaces where two to four golf carts could easily fit. Since golf carts are the preferred way to travel for many Villagers, some feel the current setup limits access for those hoping to enjoy the nightly entertainment and local dining.
With the area’s population on the rise, the parking challenge has only intensified. Until the fourth square opens in Middleton—and with Sawgrass Square offering only a small footprint—the crowds remain concentrated in Brownwood and Lake Sumter. Residents are calling for more golf-cart-only parking zones around the squares to help make evenings out less of a parking headache and more of the carefree experience The Villages is known for.
