The Saturday Farmers Market at Brownwood Paddock Square® in The Villages® is starting to feel a little busier than usual. Many long-time residents are noticing that the foot traffic, golf carts, and shopping bags resemble what we usually see later in the fall when part-time residents return. But this year, it seems to be happening earlier.
So, what’s going on? Is it that snowbirds are arriving ahead of schedule, or is the community itself simply growing so quickly that the crowds feel bigger than ever? With new neighborhoods opening every year, it’s possible the steady increase in full-time residents is giving the impression of an early season rush.
Either way, the lively atmosphere at Brownwood is a great sign of community spirit, but it also means we all need to be a little more mindful:
- Respect the crowds – Be patient with vendors and fellow shoppers. Lines may be longer, but everyone’s here to enjoy the market.
- Be careful with pets – The market can be overwhelming for dogs. Hot pavement, food scents, and tight spaces can stress them out or cause accidents.
- Why walk bikes through the square? – Some cyclists choose to walk their bikes because riding through the crowd would be unsafe and disruptive. It’s about courtesy and avoiding collisions in such a packed space.
The Farmers Market is a beloved weekly tradition, and whether the crowds are here because of early snowbirds or simply the booming size of The Villages®, the key is to embrace the energy while keeping safety and respect in mind.
